My personal blog for Virtua Fighter

A lot of the old assets are not working anymore in this blog. What I had intended for this blog to be, a very well-organized notebook for the latest version of Virtua Fighter will now be transferred over to a private discord. I might use this blog instead for a variety of VF articles.

[Updates] September 27, 2014 Change Log

Over half a year since the last blog entry. Hopefully, I will have the motivation to update this on a more regular basis. Some of the more recently made Photobucket slideshows are not working anymore. I think I will abandon the slideshows and try to do something else.

[Updates] Command Inputs added to all Characters' Default Stance Pages

March 1, 2014 - A goal of the VF Moves Project is to present every option available in any given situation.  I hope this would be an efficient way to learn aspects of the game without trying to over simplify or over complicate things.  Majority of situations during a match, characters will have all the options available from their respective default stance pages.  These pages will constantly be referred to in future blog entries.

For the end of this week, I have finished adding command inputs to all the characters' default stance pages.  In the future, I will add more notes to each page, similar to the content available on Akira's page.

[Updates] VF Moves Project Early Build completed

February 21, 2014 - Finally, all preliminary images added and all indices updated with links. Construction of the Early Build of the VF Moves Project is completed!  The idea for the blog has been in my head since early 2008 and the actual construction specifically for Final Showdown took ~1 and a half years to complete.  Over 1700 blog entries and 3000 preliminary images forms the backbone of  what I hope will be a useful resource for others as well as for my own VF education.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - 14 Characters' Sections Completed

/hi July 18th, 2013 - After a long hiatus due to various complications, work on the Project continues! So far I have added all the images to 14 of the 20 characters sections. Only Kage, Lau, Lei, Lion, Sarah, and Shun remains. I am working on Kage's section currently.

One of the reason for the delay in updates to the project is due to Photobucket (the image storage website) going through a complete renovation.

[Updates] Flash Multimedia and Emoticon in Blogger

/hi February 3rd, 2013 - Hello, this is a test post on making and embedding flash multimedia and incorporating command emoticons into the blog.  The cat emoticons were from the original emoticon javascript code I used as the template for the emoticons in this blog.  The cats are amusing, so I kept them in the code.  Update: The "cats" are actually Abo the onion head.

The code used for the command emoticons are below (there should be no space between the brackets).  There are two smaller versions of each command input by add 1 or 2 "s" after the letter.  I think the smaller versions are too small, but the original size alters the line height.

[Updates] Completion of Early Build Pushed to February

January 20th, 2013 - Since last update, all preliminary images were added to Aoi, Blaze, Brad, and Taka's sections.  That makes 8 of the 20 characters done for the Early Build of the Project (the other characters completed were Akira, Vanessa, Wolf, and Dural).  Previously, I wrote end of January as my deadline to finish the Early Build (adding all the preliminary images to all the pages).  At the pace I  am going, that goal will not be met.  So the estimated date for completing this portion of project will likely be in February.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - Images added to all sections of Dural and Vanessa

January 5th, 2013 - Now that I am adding images to all the characters' sections, I will try to make weekly updates on my progress to finish this portion of the Early Build.  For past updates to the project, please check the Update Link (the link is always at the top of the "Index Bar" in the right column).  The Introduction section have been updated.  All images have been added to Dural's and Vanessa's sections.  Both Dural and Vanessa are unique in that they have two main stances (Rapid and Massive Mode for Dural and Defensive and Offensive Style for Vanessa).  Hopefully the reason they took a week to complete is because their sections are so much bigger than the other characters.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - Bulk of Placeholder Pages Completed

December 30th, 2012 - Placeholder pages for all the characters completed (no images) with a total of 1356 page entries.  The December goal was met!  On to the second part of Stage 3, which is adding the 3000+ preliminary images to those pages. Akira and Wolf were finished a while ago.  I am currently working on Dural.  I am hoping to finish Dural by the end of the year.  You will see a "working on this part' by moves names which are just tabs to remind me where I am at in adding images.  The goal is to finish adding all the preliminary images to the remaining 18 characters by the end of January 2013.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - Move Execution/Throw Escape Data added to Default Pages

December 14th, 2012 - Finished back turned slide shows for all the characters (still not added to site).  Also completed adding the execution and throw escape direction for all the characters' moves from default stance (links posted below).  The execution and throw escape data is within the brackets [ ], in front of the moves' names.  You will notice that some of the execution data is italicized.  Those are for moves that have a "dash", while standing, or fully crouched command input.  Depending on the situation, buffering these moves may take one additional frame before execution.  Thus, a [14] move, for most purposes should be consider a 15 frame move.

To streamline the process and try to complete the early build by end of January 2013, I will be dividing Stage 3 into two parts.  For December, I want to finish making majority of the placeholder pages for the blog (7 out of 20 characters done so far).  January will be spent adding all the images to the placeholder pages (2 out of 20 done).  So I will likely make the next update post near the end of the year.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - Images added to Wolf's Sections

December 4th, 2012 - Finished adding images to Wolf's section of the blog's early build! Still need to add links from Wolf's Index to these pages, but that will be done at a later stage.  Trying to streamline the process to get all the characters done for Stage 3, so Wolf and all the other characters will not be close to Akira's section in content (and that section is still lacking quite a bit).  I reorganized the site to have the home pages of the characters on the left side.

[Updates] Stage 3 of Blog Construction - Akira Sections Finished

November 26th, 2012 - This took longer than expected, but the Akira sections for Stage 3 of the VF Moves Project is done! Thanks to Feck for a quick review of Akira.  The project is to layout all options of a character at any given moment of the game with visual references.  Details are lacking and is nowhere were I want it to be, but at least all the page entries have been added.  The main goal of Stage 3 was organizational - connecting all the move entries and images together.  I wanted every page linked, similar to a wiki, but also leave comment section so people can contribute or ask questions specifically related to the moves in an organize way.  Once early build is completed (still aiming for January 2013), the comments section will be opened publicly

I will describe the organization of the characters sections using Akira as an example.  First you have two character directories to help navigate through the character sections:

[Updates] Stage 2 of Blog Completed

November 15th, 2012 - The VF Moves Project is currently under construction.  Since I have reached a small milestone in getting it built (Stage 2 completed), I thought I would make the blog temporarily viewable to everyone.  I will close the blog down again once I start Stage 3 of the project (November 19 or so).

The VF Moves Project is something I had in mind to do since the original Virtua Fighter 5.  The overall goal was to make an alternative way to view/discuss the game (outside of the VFDC command lists/forum/wiki) with a main component of the project being the images and later videos (at the end of the post is an example).
